Al momento Electra è una tensione ed è solamente un laboratorio teatrale di 3 giorni.

Ma la verità è che Electra è la cocciuta utopia di creare una troupe internazionale permanente.

C’è un’idea di micro-società dietro alla creazione di uno spettacolo: il modo in cui se ne dipana la matassa ci racconta che teatro vorremmo partorire, che persone/attori vorremmo essere nel mondo di oggi, ci racconta la forza materna e assoluta che lega gli attori e il regista tra loro e ci mostra il frutto della loro comunione.

C’è bisogno di fratellanza ! Di azione ! Di cura !
L’altra verità è che Electra è la voglia ossessiva di continuare a ragionare (dopo Hamm-Let, Otello, Titus), sui rapporti familiari nell’ attimo esatto in cui degenerano, collassano, sul limite che sancisce la separazione dell’ Eros dai legami di sangue. Attorno a queste riflessioni vogliamo costruire il lavoro, immaginando le attrici impegnate a costruire l’educazione sentimentale di Elettra che cresce, dapprima secondo natura poi…quasi uno squarcio si apre ed ecco apparire la jeune fille come un’immagine di forza vigorosa e dirompente, come centauro (uomo che si farà donna) che cerca la propria natura,nel conflitto tra la madre ed il padre. Accanto a lei attori uomini – genitori / amanti – intrecciati visceralmente al suo destino. E madri che sembrano uscite da foto di Newton,molli e recalcitranti.

Electra sarà una ricerca lunga e concentrata dove la troupe della Piccola Compagnia della Magnolia lavorerà con giovani attori stranieri e non; nuove latitudini, corpi, suoni e energie che si affronteranno e disciplina e audacia per irrobustire il corpo e l’immaginazione, per trasmettere idee, creare ipotesi di bellezza, non solo raccontare storie.

Electra vorrà essere un terreno fertile per indagare l’attore: trovare l’appoggio, la stampella che permette di stare al riparo dal realismo, per poter scendere come subacquei dentro di noi, risalire e metaforizzare quanto trovato, delle cause mostrarne i sintomi, declinarli in forme. Si tratta di trovare lo stato, il sentimento, come diceva Jouvet; si tratta di cercare l’energia per affiancare demoni come Elettra o Clitennestra.

H o f m a n n s t h a l , O ’ N e i l l , Y o u r c e n a r , E u r i p i d e , G a l d ó s , G i r a u d o u x , S t r a u s s , S a r t r e , E s c h i l o , J u n g , V o l t a i r e… saranno compagni dell’equipaggio, che daranno eventuali suggerimenti al lavoro, diverranno forse strutture da smontare per riscoprirne l’integro nucleo emotivo.

Tutto questo sarà l’impegno cui Magnolia si dedicherà febbrilmente nell’anno in corso, sperando di incontrare compagni disposti a compromettersi in questa avventura.

La casa madre che accoglierà questa ricerca sarà il Teatro Fassino di Avigliana (Torino), che Magnolia abita da gennaio 2013 con i colleghi di Crab Teatro e Officina per la Scena, grazie al progetto di stanzialità permanente Teatro Abitato, da cui è nata l’omonima Associazione di associazioni che abbiamo recentemente costituito.

Ma durante la creazione Electra si snoderà anche in Europa, dove farà tappa a Lione dai compagni del Festival Printemps d’ Europe che coproducono lo spettacolo, poi finirà in Siberia dagli amici dell’ Accademia per Attori di Chelyabinsk ed ancora al Festival di Benevento Città Spettacolo a settembre 2013. E chissà, ci auguriamo che il percorso sarà costellato di ulteriori incontri fortunati, residenze stimolanti e sfide in campo aperto.

Ma per cominciare faremo un semplice laboratorio di 3 giorni per giovani attori italiani e stranieri. La lingua non porrà problemi poiché – se necessario – il laboratorio verrà condotto principalmente in francese e inglese, e certamente le barriere linguistiche non fermeranno l’urgenza di capirsi.

Ogni partecipante dovrà portare un’idea, performance, brano, musica, estratto a memoria, che per lui abbia attinenza con il mondo di Electra cui ci stiamo avvicinando.

For now, the “Electra” project is just in the making, and it actually starts as a 3 days workshop.

But in truth Electra is the stubborn utopia to form a permanent international troupe.

The creation of a play is founded on a micro-society as an ideal. The way we develop it, also reveals what kind of theatre we wish to express, what kind of people/actors we wish to be in today’s world. It reveals the maternal and absolute strength linking actors and director, and the outcome of this special communion.

We have also another compelling motivation: Electra is the obsessive desire to keep on reasoning (after Hamm-let, Otello, Titus) about family relationships as seen in the very moment they corrupt and collapse, on the boundary line between Eros and blood ties.

These thoughts will be the basis of our work on the stage.

We imagine the actresses engaged to retrace Electra’s sentimental education: at the beginning, Electra grows up in a natural manner… then suddenly the veil is torn, and the jeune fille appears as an image of vigorous and explosive strength, like a centaur (a man who will become woman) looking for her own nature while conflicting with her mother and father.

At her side, male actors (fathers, lovers) viscerally tied to her fate – and weak and restive mothers who comes out from Helmut Newton’s pictures.
In this project, Piccola Compagnia della Magnolia undertakes a long, in-depth analysis of Electra, together with young foreign actors – new latitudes, bodies, sounds and energies to confront with; discipline and boldness to strengthen bodies and imaginations to convey ideas, to make new plans for beauty – not just to tell stories.
Electra is fertile ground to investigate on the acting. We’ll work to find the cornerstone that allows us to stay away from realism. Like divers, we will descend into ourselves, return to the surface and make metaphors of what we found. We will track back symptoms to causes, shaping them in figures. This involves finding the state, the feeling, as Jouvet said: it is a matter of finding the energy to confront with demons like Electra or Clytemnestra.
Hofmannsthal, O’Neill, Yourcenar, Euripides, Galdós, Giraudoux, Strauss, Sartre, Aeschylus, Jung, Voltaire will be on board, too, contributing to the work – maybe we’ll have to deconstruct their works to unveil the emotional core.

This will be our commitment this year, hoping to gather some workmates willing to compromise on this adventure.
Teatro Fassino in Avigliana (Torino) will be the place of our research.

Since january 2013, Teatro Fassino is the headquarters of a pool of acting companies (Piccola Compagnia della Magnolia, Crab Teatro and Officina per la Scena), established thanks to “Teatro Abitato” – a permanent project sustained by local government, which give name to our association.
During the work of creating the show, we will stop in Lyon at the Festival Printemps d’Europe (a co-producer of the show), then at the Academy of Actors of Chelyabinsk (Siberia), than at Festival Benevento Città Spettacolo. We hope that our journey will be marked by other fortunate encounters, challenges and occasions for exiting new residences.
Meantime, a 3 day workshop will be the second step of our project.

It will be spoken in English and French, and surely language barriers will not stop the urge to understand.
